This is DC, is an off the cuff selection of the best moments from my one time radio show ‘Back to DC’. The DC stands for philosophy behind my first party organization Def Conn/Disco Children, which featured such luminaries as DJ Harvey, Thomas Bolluck and Jay Hannon back in 1987. The idea was simple ‘do it because it’s there to be done’. That’s what I tried to do on the show where I played live in a bar in Tokyo reading poetry and comics and erotica while playing children’s toys and assorted instruments like my favorite nose flute and playing the same album from one side to the other over and over on one deck while on the other playing the kind of music featured here. Though the show is over the music of course lives on.

Like the Folkways releases, each installment in the FRKWYS series lives under a thematic banner (albeit sometimes loose) and explores a different facet of electronic music.The first release in the series features collaborations from NYC's industrial pranksters Excepter with Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti of Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey, JG Thirwell of Foetus and his many alter egos, and Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto. Remember "Murder Ballads"? Well, this is "Murder Disco". The urge and darkness of alternative underground culture - from frenzy Psychobilly to throbbing Industrial - brought back into dance music by France's best kept secret, Krikor.

Why has Krikor never released an album before the one on which you'll find this first single? That remains a mystery, maybe because this guy is the kind of crazy perfectionnist who will spend months on reworking a track. Maybe because he was waiting for the right time. And this time has come. Prince and Throbbing Gristle on a boat is the kind of feeling you get while listening to his album. Stompin beats and overdriven synths, oldschool drum machines and outer-space sound sculptures.

On this first single, Krikor and his Dead Hillbillies invited the great Nicolas Ker of Poni Hoax fame to lay his deep dreadful voice. For proper dancefloor action, Krikor reduced the original himself to a heavy bass disco monster full of percussions and tape delay.On the flip, two typical Krikor tracks, stomping beats and acid guitars bringing the (dark) funk back in Electronic music.
